London in Bloom Awards 2023

The Royal Parks Guild

In partnership with Grosvenor Estates the Royal Parks Guild is pleased to be co-sponsoring two London in Bloom Awards that recognise and encourage horticultural training in London.

London Apprentice of the Year Award

This was presented to Grace Wright-Spenrick of the London Borough of Islington, an apprentice who has shown to be very capable and hardworking, with a positive attitude to her role, and keen to learn. Grace particularly likes working in the community, especially with gardening groups and people from under-represented, diverse backgrounds. She leads two other apprentices, one with learning difficulties and one who is new to the service, helping them as they begin their careers in horticulture.

Apprentice Scheme of the Year Award

This award recognises an organisation within London or a London Borough operating a successful Apprenticeship scheme, supporting those wishing to pursue a career in Horticulture.

The award was presented to the London Borough of Lewisham for their outstanding apprenticeship scheme at Beckenham Place Park. The scheme was put in place as part of Heritage Lottery Funding and seeks to provide a broad experience of horticulture, grounds and countryside management. Since 2018, four apprentices (soon to be five) have been taken on, of which three have transitioned to become permanent staff members.
